Beginning ~ in a redwood forest

Today's Book Beginnings is from California Blue, a young adult novel by David Klass, 1994.
"I don't know why running through a redwood forest has always made me think of death."
The boy likes to run, and within a few pages he has run off the trail chasing a butterfly.  His father and older brothers were all into "manly" sports like football, basketball, and baseball, so they consider him a bit odd, to put it mildly.  I'm enjoying the book, so far, but I'm still trying to find the connection to "always made me think of death."

This meme is hosted by Katy at A Few More Pages. Share the first sentence or two of the book you are reading. Then, share your impressions of that beginning. Click this link to see what others say about the books they are reading this week.

strange first sentence! I can't quite wrap my head around a redwood forest equating death. Maybe by the end you'll know...

Hmm, having been in a redwood forest before, I have a hard time picturing anyone running without tripping over various logs and forest debris. LOL!

This is an intriguing beginning. It makes me want to know why running in a redwood forest makes him think of death.

Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!
