Roll down the window

Nominate some sayings that will be obsolete -- or already are.  Let's start with this one as I say it:
Roll down the window
Wind up the clock
Clockwise and counterclockwise
Dial the phone number
Get the film developed
Also posted on my Joyful Noiseletter word blog.

That's really funny that you posted this as I taught my daughter the universal sign for telling someone in another car to put their window down is to mime rolling down a window. She had to ask why that gesture since she's never seen a car with a hand crank on the windows!

Yup, it's happening! Thanks, Helen.

So, what can we say about the car windows?

"Button down the windows?" (a button is doing the action, but most of us will think of a different type of button and button-ing action)

Just make the sound?? "ZZZZ down the window?" -- Though some cars are more quiet than others.

What do people say other than "roll down"???

wow... this got me thinking more than necessary. I must really be putting off John Wesley work. ☺

Debra, overthinking is a time-honored way of avoiding anything you should be doing.

Okay, Debra, I've thought about it and have come up with a simple alternative:

"Open the window."

Hi Bonnie, I am a first-time visitor who thought of a couple of oldies:

Spin the 45s
Close the ice box
Hang up the phone

And, how about "turn off the radio" cause so few folks listen anymore, but we STILL do...listen.
