This challenge sounds overwhelming to me, probably because I am so not good at reading older books!
Good luck!
I'm not sure I have the time to read 100 books in a year, let alone 113, but I like the idea. I'm going to see whether I have completed this challenge retroactively. I bet that in my entire reading career there are still years in the 20th century that are unrepresented in my reading.
Ryan, I don't see any time limit imposed on us, so I'm not trying to complete this challenge in one year. I know I'll read more than a hundred books this year, but a big portion of them will be from THIS century. I am not greatly interested in books from the early twentieth century, so I know it will take me a long time to fill in all the years. I may never finish, but I think it will be interesting to see how many I happen across.
I love the idea of bonus books - and I note that you are obviously more comfortable in the latter section of the century! I found it funny that A Century of Books exposed lots of blindspots I didn't realise my reading had.
Simon, I don't know that "comfort" has much to do with my reading choices, but most of my reading in 2012 has been studying nonfiction for a class I've been teaching. Therefore, my focus has been on more recent books. I also forget to record years until something like your comment reminds me. I'll have to go back through my list of books completed and note other years I've read lately.
