Two more posts from the past

Yesterday, I shared a post from the past, after discovering how interesting it was to re-read things I had posted many years ago.  Here are two more discoveries from earlier posts, both from 2018.

Five books were in one "post from the past."  All five are still there on my Kindle (obviously), but it seems I never got around to reading them.  Oops!  I'll tell you more about each book as I'm ready for it.  But meanwhile . . .

Click HERE if you want to read about those five books right now.

Today, I was wearing this tee-shirt when Katie delivered meals to my door.  Later, I remembered something she said about this shirt several years ago.  Her comment at the time inspired me to write a blog post about it, which is probably the only reason I remember that encounter at all.

Hey!  I just now found this in a comment dated October 01, 2010, so now I know how old this tee-shirt is:
My friend Donna ran across another tee-shirt and got it for me:  "Careful, or you'll end up in my novel."  I wore it just yesterday!

A nice surprise

CROWN CARE PACKAGE

I was playing a lazy game of Solitaire just after 10:00 this morning, when someone knocked on the door and yelled, "Maintenance."  I jumped up, since I hadn't yet bothered to get dressed or even brush my hair.  It was Floyd, already two doors down, leaving something at each apartment door.  Galina, across the hall, was wearing a robe when she opened her door.  With nowhere to go and nothing much to do, we are in no hurry to "look presentable."  I reached down and picked up...

...a cellophane bag with several items in it:  a small of bag of Cheez-its, a fresh orange, Planters peanuts, small package of trail mix, a single pack of Quaker Oats (maple and brown sugar), a sealed cup of juicy cut-up peaches, and one small piece of Hershey's Krackel chocolate, like the ones Donna gives people going by the link desk when she's the volunteer on duty.  It isn't much, really, but it brought tears to my eyes.  (That surprised me!)  Then I unfolded the paper that was in the goody bag.  "You've Got This!" it says.  It's a Crown Care Package (Bubbe Approved!) to send us support from the staff.  "It's just a small way to let you know we are thinking of you and know you can do this.  Stay positive and, if you have time, call a friend and make their day a little brighter."

On the back of the sheet is a Word Search puzzle.  Crown usually puts out stacks of Word Search pages every weekday in the library, so seeing this didn't surprise me until I read the list of words.  There are names of twelve staff members on the list:  Amy, Donna, Floyd, Katie, Laura, Megan, Nikki, Randi, Scott, Theresa, Tim, and Yoram.  Ha!  The first name I found was FLOYD, who delivered this care package.

Oh, yeah, Clawdia enjoyed the pretty green ribbon.  I bounced it in front of her, and she tackled it.  She batted it around.  Then she bit it, getting it stuck on her teeth when she chewed through it.  I had to almost tackle her to take it away when she couldn't spit it out of her mouth.  But she had FUN with it.  She thanks you, too, Crown Center.

LAUGH A LITTLE

Before you leave, I'm going to send you to a 2012 blog post I entitled "Monday Madness ~ you can't fix stupid."  If you read on down into the comments, you'll find the "stupid" thing I did on the day I got my first computer.  (Hmm, I need to tell Andy it was his dad Joe who was my computer gugu back in 1984.  Andy probably needs a laugh today, too.)

Café favorites ~ staff recommendations

Scott was cleaning behind the counter when I snapped this photo showing the display of staff favorites on the easel last week.  Here's what they said, with pictures showing their choices:

Soup of the Day
Katie ~ "Perfect on a chilly day!  OR any day!"
Lox and Bagel Platter
Nikki ~ "Perfect lunch — healthy, delicious, and reasonably priced!"
Circle Salad
Randi ~ "I always add tuna."
Classic Greek Salad
Ezra ~ "Olive the Greek Salad!  It's Feta than the rest!"
Grilled Veggie Flatbread Pizza-for-One
Tonya ~ "Who doesn't love delicious pizza?"
Impossible Burger
Ron ~ "HI-TECH BURGER."
My favorite order?  I agree with Randi about the Circle Salad, and I too always order a scoop of tuna with it.  But my favorite wording is Ezra's pun:  "Olive the Greek Salad."  And I really like Feta cheese!  I think I'll order it, take a snapshot of it, and add it with his words to the bulletin board beside the elevator on my floor.  That will have to wait, though, because I've decided that today's a good day to run down to the Café for pizza!  Hmm, I'll have to ask Scott what he likes best.

UPDATE:  I did eventually take a snapshot of the Greek Salad, which you can see if you click the link.

TWOsday ~ in the Circle@Crown Café

Yesterday, Tonya posted this week's specials for the Circle@Crown Café:
Monday:  Veggie Burger on Pretzel Roll
Tuesday:  Pasta Fagioli with Cheese Garlic Bread
Wednesday:  Baked Salmon Wrap
Thursday:  Artichoke Quiche
Friday:  Battered Fish and Mac and Cheese
After checking my calendar and deciding what appealed to my taste buds, I posted a comment, saying, "Looks like Tuesday and Thursday for me."  Then I invited friends to join me, some on Facebook, some around the dinner table last night.  I have friends lined up to eat with me today and Thursday.  In the meantime, here's a painting by Susan Dorothea White of a bunch of other women enjoying a meal together.

UPDATE after lunch:
Donna, Sandy M., and Melvin were already in the Café when I arrived with Marie, having talked her into joining us for a few minutes.  Ezra sat and talked while waiting for his order to go, and Katie spoke to us while getting her drink.  Barbara arrived after most had finished eating, but we had a great chat anyway.
