Am I just a cynic or does this all look like another marketing ploy? I simply don't believe that Rowling set out with Dumbledore being gay, if she had, she would have raised the point in the earlier books. It doesn't bother me whether he's gay or not but I do kind of have an issue with this late revelation - it somehow seems dishonest, as I say, a marketing ploy. Still, I guess that's what the world of publishing is all about, ensuring sales and one has to admit, it's a good angle to take - from multiple perspectives.
I read about this and my first thought was: Who in the world would care about a thing like this? Dumbledore's sexuality never crossed my mind while I was reading the books. Not once. If she's trying to make a point or earn points from the gay population, she should've been a bit more up front about it from the beginning. But, personally, I'll stick with my first thought - who cares?

NONE of the teachers' personal lives are revealed, so I disagree with AV that she would have mentioned Dumbledore's in the book.
But it might be a marketing ploy. I just have no idea why she'd need any more publicity.
