Because I already knew I would be teaching Developmental Writing at Chattanooga State this fall, I laughed when I read what Shelly's dad thought about the essay she wrote on Abraham Lincoln for school:"I picked it up and opened it, reading the first few sentences and then scanning the rest. It was riddled with spelling errors. None of the paragraphs were indented. There were no topic sentences. No thesis.
