Question of the Week ~ patriotism

“Patriotism is not a virtue but a vice, a prejudice in favor of one’s own kind that we should try to overcome.” Do you agree?

I think you can be patriotic. It's jingoism that becomes a problem.

How can love for and pride in where you come from be a bad thing? That's just silly if you ask me.

I am patriotic; I love my country, I love what we stand for, and I always will.

I believe that patriotism can be both a vice and a virtue. A true patriot does not blindly love or accept anyone or anything, without first learning the true nature of what is being presented or if someone has an "agenda". Evil can be masked and goodness can be a pretense. Who we are and where we come from is secondary to caring for and about all of humanity. Borders and nations are only the construction of power hungry men who make up various governments. Patriotism is loyalty to what is good, right, caring and humane

Thanks for commenting, June and CJ and Dorrie. My study group has spent October-November-December on the Harvard online class on "Justice," and I always share the answers you have given us here on my blog. If you want to see any of the weekly videos, you'll find them by starting here:

Thanks again. (One more week, and we will have completed our study.)
