Saturday Snapshot ~ Martha and Jess

Martha and Jess were married 20 years ago this week (April 4, 1992).  She posted this photo on my Facebook wall, asking me, "Bonnie, do you remember where you were 20 years ago today???"  Yes, I was right there in the middle of it all.  The wedding, I mean.  No, I wasn't a bridesmaid wearing black with a cute white collar, but you kind of needed me there.  I remember driving three hours from Morristown to be in Chattanooga that day.  Mother and I didn't move back to Chattanooga until late June of that year.

I also remember that, in spite of major surgery not long before, Martha was determined to walk down the aisle and she did!  Yay, Martha!  And I know you two still act madly in love with each other.  I must have tied that knot pretty well, huh?

Saturday Snapshot is a meme hosted by Alyce from At Home With Books.  To participate, post a photo taken by you (or a friend or family member).  Your photo can be old or new, as long as its subject is appropriate for all eyes to see.  Check out the snapshots others are sharing this week.

Oh my goodness, it proves she loved that guy. I don't think I could walk down the aisle after major surgery. Enjoyed the photo. It' doesn't look 20 years old. That's a good thing.:)

What a terrific snapshot! Nice to know you had such a major role in helping a young couple seal the deal, huh?

What a great thing! I've performed about 5 weddings for friends and it really is special (I get "ordained" for their weddings)

Sheila, did I fail to tell you I'm an ordained minister? Or had you just never imagined me wearing a black robe? I rarely wore a collar, unlike clergywomen in the Episcopal church, for instance.

Helen, what does that mean, you get "ordained" for their weddings? Is it legal? Or does someone else (maybe someone ordained) do the legal part of the service?

That is such a great story! I didn't know you were able to marry people either - very neat! :)

Bonnie, regarding your question. In California (and other states?) The local Hall of Records/County can "ordain" someone to perform a marriage between 2 specific people on one specific day. A lot of people here do it so a friend or relative can perform the wedding ceremony and it's legal

Wow, thanks for explaining, Helen. I have never heard about that, and we don't have anything like it here, as far as I know. Because I am ordained by the United Methodist Church, I can perform marriage ceremonies in Tennessee and also in other states. But others, who are only licensed to preach, cannot. That may have changed, but I haven't heard about it.
