It's a thinking problem

More examples, from me:
a cat, but not a bird
a cup, but not a bottle
eight, but not five
a phone, but not a computer
waking, but not walking
a toy, but not a book
Not a book!  What could possibly make me say such a thing?  Can you see the pattern?  What's going on here?  Comment by giving me an example a correct answer to fit this pattern.
a ___________, but not a __________
This kind of problem makes me think outside the box.  Schulz had a great way of looking at thinking problems.

Lots of folks riding this bus

Answer This ... without using paper and pencil ... You are the bus driver. At your first stop, you pick up 29 people. On your second stop, 18 of those 29 people get off, and at the same time 10 new passengers arrive. At your next stop, 3 of those 10 passengers get off, and 13 new passengers come on. On your fourth stop 4 of the remaining 10 passengers get off, 6 of those new 13 passengers get off as well, then 17 new passengers get on. Now, without re-reading this word problem, answer this ... What color are the bus driver's eyes? Post your answer now, on this blog. If you had to resort to using pen and paper after all, please note that when you post your answer. Then you may look at the correct answer HERE.

Use your noggin

Which is correct? One is half of two. Two are halves of one. Explain your thinking HERE.

Words that wound

It is not always true that "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Take this opportunity to think about how words can wound. How would you feel, for instance, if someone says you are not half the man your father was? Take a minute to think about it (and maybe post your comments here on this blog) before you click HERE for one way of thinking about this insult.

Test your agility

Test your agility by timing yourself on how long it takes you to trace the shortest line from the entrance at the bottom left of the maze to the exit at the bottom right of the maze. After you have finished this task, click HERE for the solution. Ready, set, go!

What does she see?

Maybe my challenge should be THINKING CREATIVELY. Here's something visual for anyone who likes a challenge. Enlarge Winslow Homer's painting "Country School" by clicking on it. Study it carefully, and then make up a story about what the teacher sees out that side window (on our left). She is looking in that direction. Does she hear something? What's going on out there? Think about your story before clicking HERE for one suggestion about what's outside that window.

What is 2 and 2 ?

I'm offering a new challenge here at Bonnie's Books, not a reading challenge, but a THINKING challenge. Are you willing to move out of your comfort zone? For example, many word people don't like math. Are you one of them? Okay, I'll make it simple. Here's your first question:
What is two and two?

Think of what you want to answer. Then click HERE to report your answer and read my comment.
