Saturday Snapshot ~ rainbow

I spotted this rainbow as I drove home in mid-May, but traffic was too busy to get a good shot.  When I stopped in the turn lane at my apartment complex, it was a now-or-never moment, and this is what I got.  It's almost as bad as the sunset I missed in April.

Saturday Snapshot is a meme hosted by Alyce from At Home With Books.  To participate, post an old or new photo taken by you (or a friend or family member).  Check out the snapshots others are sharing this week.

  1. It's not often that we get to capture a moment like this.

  2. Hey! With rainbows, you take them where and when you can get them! They're always such a lovely surprise aren't they ?

  3. Good capture! Rainbows are elusive.

  4. It's always a special moment to see a rainbow. You do have to take them where you find them.

  5. Rainbows are so elusive, too...capturing this much is an awesome feat. Thanks for sharing....

  6. Neat picture! I never have my camera when I see a rainbow.

  7. How fun to see a rainbow in such a prosaic setting.

  8. That looks like a pretty full rainbow - you don't see those too often.

  9. Eugenia, I "wear" my cell phone around my neck, hanging by a lanyard that I had originally gotten for something else. Without taking my eyes from the road (and that traffic), I can raise it and push the button on the side for the camera. Thus, it's always "ready" when I need it. I waited until I stopped in the turn lane to "aim" it at the rainbow.

And that's how I captured the elusive rainbow!

  10. Nice shot, especially for such a quick snap! I had a similar experience last week - saw a bird I had never seen before (some type of little sparrow) at the grocery store parking lot and was kicking myself for not taking my camera with me everywhere. :)

  11. No matter how many rainbows I see, each one feels special somehow. I think the shot is a good one!

  12. It is an amazing shot - and I love the way you take your pictures but I don't think I could do it. I'm so petrified of driving, I cling on to thr heel, and daren't take my eyes off the road! But I took nice pictures in a bluebell wood http://chriscross-thebooktrunk.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/witches-woods-and-saturday-snapshots.html

  13. I think you did great getting the rainbow--not a missed shot at all!

I missed getting a shot of bird that I'd never seen in our yard before. I was sitting out under the maple tree and it flew up, landed on the trunk, made a little circle all around it and was off. Even if it had stuck around, I know I could never have managed to get up and get the camera without scaring it away....

    Here's my Snapshot.

  14. Christine, I didn't take the picture while I was driving. I was stopped with my foot on the brake in the left-turn lane. I snapped the photo before turning left into my apartment complex.

  15. Great shot. I never have my camera with me and the one on my phone is useless.

  16. This cell phone camera isn't as sharp as a really good camera, but it did capture the colors of the rainbow.
