Should doctors prescribe meditation instead of medication? This basically sounds like what my doctor has been saying for years. How many of you have tried meditation?
I meditate every day after I shower and get dressed - it took me lots of trial and error to figure out how to work it into my life, but I finally got it (I also took an 8 week mindfulness course at our local university parish). I linked the meditation habit to my daily routine in the morning and I started out with just 5 minutes at a time; now up to 10. Establishing the habit was the hardest part. Benefits I notice? I can more easily access inner calm throughout my day, I don't get as sucked into drama as quickly, and I am able to maintain a healthy detachment to difficult/unpleasant things. My mantra? "Everything is fine just as it is." Give it a try - it doesn't have to be long or complicated - all you have to do is sit quietly and pay attention to your breath for a few minutes every day. The benefits accrue over time.

Thanks, Amy. I like your mantra: "Everything is fine just as it is."
