"My longing for her was always there. What I wanted more than anything was my mother's attention. I plotted and I campaigned. I hatched plans. I pleaded. Then, just when I thought I had her, she would slip; from my grasp. As the disappointments piled up, I learned to focus on pinpoints of hope: The less demanding the request, I figured, the greater my chances of success."This beginning may explain the cover (which I dislike): designed to look roughly torn and badly taped back together. Uh-huh, a metaphor for mother-daughter dysfunction. Throw in a third generation ("daughter"), and we are bound to have problems. I look forward to reading this memoir.

This Katie Hafner memoir looks promising. Thanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteAlso, on your last entry...I am leary about loaning books. I prefer to share what I like and let them get their own. The books that I really love are like fine possessions and I feel comfort with them near.
Looks interesting. I love sharing and let people pass the books on to others as well. I only keep the books I truly loved but the rest share away.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it could be intense and dredge up a lot of issues for certain readers. Mother daughter issues are always tough.
