The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language ~ by Eugene Peterson, 2002
Since I'll be teaching the 34-week DISCIPLE Bible Study this year, my best friend gave me this new Bible for Christmas. This edition is called the Numbered Edition because chapter and verse numbers have been restored. Peterson originally left them out so it would read like a story, which it was originally. The Bible's numbering system was a later addition, much later, and is really not very good, chopping up the story in strange places. But an unnumbered story is difficult to use in a discussion group, so this edition has restored the numbers. I'm glad. I plan to read all 1,736 pages this year.BONES
It was exactly one month ago today that I fell and broke my shoulder. I am greatly improved — no longer needing pain pills, getting around better, doing what I can with one hand to straighten the house, champing at the bit to DO something! We kicked off the January book discussion at Book Buddies — Flight Behavior, Barbara Kingsolver's new novel — would you like to join us? Just click on the title.

I'm glad you are feeling so much better. I got Kingsolver's book for Christmas, but am afraid to commit about commenting as my record doesn't show much follow through on that.
ReplyDeleteI have loved Barbara Kingsolver's past books (except Poisonwood Bible, which just didn't work for me). I haven't heard much about this newest one but will look into it. Enjoy your read along!
ReplyDeleteJan (and Helen, too), feel free to comment if and when you have something to say at Book Buddies. You don't have to "commit" to anything to join the discussion. If you are interested, though, I'll be glad to add your name to the list of folks getting emails when new comments are posted. (And I'll take you off the list after this book -- or whenever you like.) Check us out here:

I'm glad your doing better, Bonnie. I won't likely have or make the time to read Kingsolver's book but am interested in reading your review. She spoke in Floyd a few years back and was great.
ReplyDeleteMy blog is fixed. If you or anyone still gets the warning it's an old page on your computer. Try a new access link. http://looseleafnotes.com
Thanks for the update, Colleen.
