Goodbye, Maxine (here and here). Hello, Emma Sue. (Emma Sue?) Let me explain. Today I traded in Maxine, my 1983 Datsun Maxima, and got a 2000 Subaru Outback. And I'm guilty of naming my cars. My friend Donna went with me and, thinking of ways to describe green — as in the car's color — she came up with emerald. No, no, no! That's a forest green, not an emerald green! So she shortened emerald to "Emma" and added "Sue" for Subaru. Thus, Emma Sue. Well, I don't know. What do you think? Does she look like an Emma Sue to you?
Congrats on the new car. Lots of adventures for you.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color! Emma Sue and you!
ReplyDeleteYes she is Emma Sue. Two colors two names and I like the way yall deduced it. Congrats on getting the new wheels, engine, transmission, seats, windows, truck, etc...
ReplyDeleteI too name my vehicles and am currently driving "Foxy Flivver" Obviously sometimes you have to create word/names for them, you see.
Emma Sue... seems kinda' ladylike for a Subaru, but I like how you came up with it. I have heard great things about Subarus so I am sure you are in for a great drive
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new ride, Bonnie! I think you'll really like having a Subaru, especially in the snow. I love the way Donna came up with the name---very creative. I think Emma Sue is a very pretty car.
ReplyDeleteThree days after getting Emma Sue, I took her on a road trip to Atlanta for an unanticipated weekend seminar. She's a very comfortable car and handles beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI just bought a new to me car! It's so exciting to be able to get into a car and know that it is going to be reliable.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of naming cars, I was thinking mine was going to be Fifi but I think I have changed my mind again. I did think of a good name the other day and now I can't remember what it is! Just then I thought of Magda (it's a Mazda 3) but we will see!
When I bought a Mazda, I thought about naming it Ahura Mazda, since that's the name for the high god in Zoroastrianism. That religion is very small in numbers, but still exists. It originated centuries ago in the area we now call Iran. But the best part? "Ahura" means light and "Mazda" means wisdom. That's pretty cool for someone like me, who taught college classes in Religions of the World, but it probably wouldn't interest you.
