January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011Rules for the Nordic Challenge
There is no need to make a list beforehand. We can count any book set in a Nordic country or by any author born in a Nordic country (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and/or Sweden). Books from this challenge would also apply to my open-ended Book Around the World challenge.Levels (I'll probably read 3-5 books)
- Huginn and Muninn ~ read 2 books
- Freya ~ read 3-5 books
- Tor ~ read 6-10 books
- Odin ~ read 11-20 books
- Valhalla ~ read 20+ books
My book list (which may change)
- Hanna's Daughters ~ by Marianne Fredriksson, 1994 (English 1996, 1998), fiction (Sweden), 8/10
- Simon's Family ~ by Marianne Fredriksson, 1985, English 1997, fiction (Sweden)
- Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name ~ by Vendela Vida, 2007, fiction (Finland), 9/10
- Independent People ~ by Halldór Laxness, 1946 (Iceland)
- A Doll's House ~ by Henrik Ibsen, 1879 (translated by R. Farquharson Sharp and Eleanor Marx-Aveling, 1993), fiction (Norway), 8/10
Welcome to the challenge! And thank you so much for the suggestions, I'll be adding them in the next day or two
ReplyDeleteLet the Northern Lights Erase Your Name, is one of my favorite books ever....enjoy! I hope to read Independent People by Laxness this year as well.
ReplyDeleteVendela Vida ("Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name") is an American writer, not Norwegian.

Anyway, the book happens partly in Finland.
I wrote about it in my blog here:

Otherwise very nice challenge! Good luck!
The book happens MOSTLY in Finland, and that's what I had in a couple of other posts. I don't know how this one happened to have "Norway," but I've changed it to "Finland" now. Here are the two other places I mentioned the book, both times with "Finland" as the setting.

By the way, I don't choose books based on the author's nationality, even though the rules given by the host of this reading challenge allow that. And I did not mention anything one way or the other about the author's nationality in this post.
My name is Cathy and I live in Maine. I have just started this challenge. You can see my postings at http://cathysreadinglist.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteHope you come and visit.
