Beginning ~ with a death

The Homecoming of Samuel Lake ~ by Jenny Wingfield, 2011, fiction (Arkansas)
John Moses couldn't have chosen a worse day, or a worse way to die, if he'd planned it for a lifetime.  Which was possible.  HE/ was contrary as a mule.  It was the weekend of the Moses family reunion, and everything was perfect — at least perfectly normal — until John went and ruined it.
How could anyone not wonder what comes next?  I have to find out how he died and how it mattered to the narrator, whoever that may be.  My problem is that, since it's a new book due back at the library in seven days, I should hurry and read it — but I'm also trying to write at least 1,667 words a day on a novel for NaNoWriMo.  In other words, my attention is divided.  What to do, what to do, what to do?

By the way, I gave a synopsis of the book in a recent library loot post.

I love that John is being blamed for his own death as if he did it to control the family reunion! Sounds like a fun read
