Words that wound

It is not always true that "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Take this opportunity to think about how words can wound. How would you feel, for instance, if someone says you are not half the man your father was? Take a minute to think about it (and maybe post your comments here on this blog) before you click HERE for one way of thinking about this insult.

Well, I'm NOT half the man my father is. I'm a woman, and I don't measure myself against men. Remember the early days of feminism when people argued whether women were equal to men? Some said women were lesser creatures. Others proudly proclaimed women were superior. Why assume that men are the golden standard against which we are measured?
